BACON!

Bacon endearingly called meat candy has become so versatile and become a major player in not only savory dishes but in sweet ones as well. Bacon tempura, bacon donuts, bacon jam, bacon ice cream, the number of ways is endless much like Bubba and his shrimp. Well, since bacon is delicious in just about everything, bacon & Thai food must be delish too; and it is. Thai cuisine uses a lot of pork belly which is basically uncured bacon. It was difficult to get uncured pork belly for dishes (still is in non-immigrant concentrated areas) so bacon became the perfect substitute.

There are 2 specials this week that have bacon as a wonderful ingredient — Brussels & Bacon Pik Kihing and Pad Khalum Phee. Pik Khing stir-fry is traditionally made with crispy slices of pork belly. The bacon adds a wonderful smokiness and saltiness to this spicy and slightly sweet kaffir lime leaf based stir-fry.

Colby Sizing Price Increase Due to Skyrocketing Rice Prices

*******Effective Monday December 5, 2011******

Thailand has been suffering from the worst flooding in it’s history. It has been 2 months and water has still not receded in many areas. It has hurt Thailand severely economically affecting tourism, manufacturing and agriculture. The devastating effects of the flooding have had a dramatic impact on Thailand’s rice production which has sharply driven up the price of all rice products by 30%. Due to this severe price increase we have no choice but to increase the price of “Colby Sizing” from $2 to $2.50 since Colby Sizing just means adding extra noodles/rice in order to off set the ridiculous price inflation of rice and rice noodles. We also know that it is also a tough time economically at home as well, and though we are increasing the price for Colby Sizing we “WILL NOT” increase the prices on are menu as a whole.

Hopefully, the flood waters will subside soon as many, many people are suffering.

Specials Starting 11/29

******Note******We just updated our specials for this week and added two new items. Click the link below to check them out.

*Specials are available for 1 week or until sold out.

We have some great specials this week.

Warm up with our soup bowls: Yaowarat or Tom Yum Woon Sen. Yaowarat is inspired by the Chinatown region in Bangkok called “Yaowarat.” The Chinese brought over dumplings and egg noodles to Thailand.

The egg noodles in the Mee Pad Phed and the Pad Gaeng Daeng are thick and similar to the lo mein noodles in Chinese restaurants. These noodles are also brought over by Chinese immigrants in Thailand and are a popular street food.

The Chinese sausage in the Khao Pad Piset is known as “Khun Chieng” in Thailand. Also brought over by Chinese immigrants. It is a a hard sausage, sweetly cured and has become beloved in the Thai food culture.
